I suppose I don't understand why this is the case or what i've missed. I don't run incursions; so I'm not sure what range you're shooting the rats or what tracking them is like. I am pretty good at math though
In the discussed fit above if you were to fit on 3 15/30 optimal/falloff mods via tracking enhancer II's or optimal range scripted tracking computer II's, (which doesn't seem to be completely out of the question) you'd end up with at all V's
hail 1209dps, 4233m optimal, 51,826m falloff
rfpp 1083dps 4233m optimal, 69,102m falloff
barrage 863dps 8467m optimal, 103,653m falloff
now I've ignored tracking
if your chance to hit is x your average dps is approximately expecteddps*((1+x)/2)*x
with that I get
Hail doing most DPS until ~30km (full to ~920 dps)
RFPP doing best at ~30km-44km ( ~920-764 dps)
barrage is the most beyond ~44km ~(764-0 dps)
at some point range wise you'd be better off switching to Artllery range wise
Obviously rfpp tracks better. So at a certain point (most likely) less than 30k rfpp will come back around. What point that is depends on what you're shooting, which i'll admit I'm clueless
I'll assume worst case, so I looked up briefly what the orbit range and orbit speed of the frigs were at what their sigs are and I get an average effective angular velocity of 0.44989512 (actual angular * 400 / sig). with a range from 0.303-0.679 which is well out of range for hitting for any of the ammunitions above without some help from webs, target painters, and scripting tracking speed tracking computers. 3 60% webs lower it to 0.05783 which is closer to the range of hittable for all of them but they'll all struggle to get close to full dps
Anything larger than that frig example will be easily tracked if it's webbed or painted by even the hail ammo
it isn't practical to switch ammo a lot in the middle of a fight, so pick the one thats best for your range and target size
if there is something I missed I'd like to know, I want to make better fits.
these are the equations I plugged into a graph to find intercept
hail : y=1209*((1+(0.5^(((x-4233)/51826)^2)))/2)*(0.5^(((x-4233)/51826)^2)
RFPP: y=1083*((1+(0.5^(((x-4233)/69102)^2)))/2)*(0.5^(((x-4233)/69102)^2)
Barrage: y=863*((1+(0.5^(((x-8467)/103653)^2)))/2)*(0.5^(((x-8467)/103653)^2)
